The imposing white and blue building of our institution forms a landmark in Salt Lake, Kolkata today. The school has completed 16 years of existence with trial blazing records.
The school is different from other private schools of the city in the fact that it is run on a no profit basis and the school fees of the students are very low. Yet the school focuses on providing the most modern and up to date educational facilities as well as co-curricular activities. It is run by a registered society – HARIYANA SEWA SADAN Trust from classes UKG to XII parallely in 2 shifts (morning and day) offering Humanities, Commerce and Science Streams at the Higher Secondary level. Well equipped science and computer laboratories, a huge well stocked library and a grand auditorium are our assets.
The foundation stone of our school was laid by the Honourable ex-chief Minister of West Bengal, Shri Jyoti Basu and the school started functioning from 1992 with strength of 538 students from classes UKG to V. Consequently the school was raised to class VIII in 1993 and from 1995 two independent shifts were introduced and the school became affiliated to CBSE.
The school motto is “Sradhaban Labhate Gyanam” or knowledge is respected. The emphasis is to instill a strong sense of values, develop thinking skills and unlock the true potentials of the students in academics, sports, co-curricular activities and social commitments which will enable them to become established in life as responsible citizens of India.
We strive hard to make our students integrated individuals through evolving curricular and co-curricular activities. Every year the CBSE results have been excellent. Toppers from school at the National level have been awarded certificates of Merit and prizes by the Government of India. Merit awards received at The Telegraph School Awards for Excellence for the post 3 consecutive years is certainly a powerful indicator of our accomplishments and the dedication of our faculty members. The discovery camps, excursions, projects and trips, which are held at regular intervals each year, give the students as opportunity to connect with the larger community. Our auditorium is a hub of cultural activities. We keep cultural traditions alive by celebrating Saraswati puja, Republic Day, Independence Day, Rabindra Jayanti, Teacher’s Day, Children’s Day and cultural programmes, that instill in us confidence and assurance in upholding our heritage and becoming responsible citizens. Social Service is a part of our curriculum – whether it is for war heroes, the aged or the undeveloped children – we love to lend our helping hand in whatever way we can.
Participation in co-curricular activities intra school or inter school is a way of life here, be it in music, drama, debate, elocution, extempore speech or dance. Laurels have been won by the students at the national and international level. In sports, table tennis, basket ball, cricket, football and throw ball HARIYANA VIDYA MANDIR has players from all disciplines who have topped competitions at the National level. All students and teachers belong to one of the four Houses namely Progress, Pragati, Peace or Prosperity. Each house has House Mistresses and prefects who instigate students to work in a team. Head Boy and Head Girl are nominated to led the students with zeal and zest.
Our well qualified teaching faculty is committed to provide their best to the students. There is a well defined and planned syllabus, planner for covering portions apart from a defined schedule for tests and exams. Teachers are appraised for their performance and there is a strong bond of communication between our teachers, parents and students. Teacher training programmes as well as orientation programmes is an important aspect of our school where teaching methods are up dated to provide quality education. Teaching with multimedia and other technical aids cater to the needs of the present generation.
We work in a team where each one of us including our support staff set a goal to accomplish school and classroom goals and actions plans.
